MALAFIDE INQUIRY AGAINST PROF NIVEDITA MENON FEDCUTA is shocked to learn that the JNU administration has adopted a biased and mala fide procedure to institute an enquiry against Professor Nivedita Menon, eminent academic and well-known feminist who heads the  Centre for Comparative Politics and Political Thought  at the School of International Studies, JNU. We are appalled to learn that Professor Bidyut Chakravarti, has been appointed as the head of the inquiry committee against Nivedita Menon, even though it has been brought to the notice of the administration that Prof. Menon had deposed before the committee against Prof. Chakravarti in an inquiry in a sexual harassment complaint in 2007. The appointment of Professor Chakravarti (who is an external member of JNU’s Executive Council) as head of an enquiry committee against Professor Menon, who testified against him reeks of bias amounting to a breach of Professor Menon’s right to a fair and impartial inquiry.  It

In this regard, several colleges have written to the UGC for grant of funds in order to implement the release of pension for retired employees belonging to Category 3. The release of pension has been held up pending a reply from the UGC. We appeal to you to look into the matter and have the appropriate grant released so that our retired employees get their due at the earliest. DUTA condemns targeting of teachers in Dyal Singh College The DUTA unequivocally condemns the Memo issued by the Dyal Singh College (Morning) Principal, at the behest of the Governing Body Chairman, to seven teachers of the college threatening legal action against them. This Memo directs a misplaced charge of misconduct against these teachers who had only been a part of a Staff Association delegation that had met the Governing Body to convey the teachers’ legitimate concerns regarding the issue of Dyal Singh Evening College’s conversion into a full-fledged day college. The DUTA is of the opinion that the teachers did nothing that can remotely be construed as unwarranted or unbecoming of their station. They are well within their rights to represent collective concerns to the Governing Body.
