Subject: Regarding renewal of services of ad-hoc teachers

Dear Colleagues,

This is regarding renewal of services of ad-hoc teachers in colleges. While a large number of ad-hoc teachers got their services renewed in the month of March, an equally large number of ad-hoc teachers across many colleges have their renewal due at the end of this month.

As you are aware, the temporary appointment of teachers on ad-hoc basis cannot be terminated before the end of the semester in which it is made or continued (copy of 1996 University circular is attached). Further, the 5th December Record of Discussion, Clause 2 stipulates: "it is expected that all ad-hoc teachers worked or working in the current academic year shall be continued till recruitment of permanent faculty".

We appeal to you to issue extension letters for another four months to all ad-hoc teachers in your college.

Further, in the light of the lockdown owing to the pandemic, we appeal to ensure that ad-hoc teachers are give their re-joining via email. Requirements of maintaining physical signed copies should be completed as soon as situation normalises. We appeal Staff Associations to ensure that salaries to all ad-hoc teachers are released on time for the entire period, treating teachers as “on duty”. In these uncertain times, it is necessary to work collectively to safeguard teachers from additional anxiety, uncertainty and hardship.
