While a large number of ad-hoc teachers got their services renewed in the month of March, an equally large number of ad-hoc teachers across many colleges have their renewal due at the end of this month. As you are aware, the temporary appointment of teachers on ad-hoc basis cannot be terminated before the end of the semester in which it is made or continued (copy of 1996 University circular is attached). Further, the 5th December Record of Discussion, Clause 2 stipulates: "it is expected that all ad-hoc teachers worked or working in the current academic year shall be continued till recruitment of permanent faculty". DUTA organizes day-long hunger strike to protest non-payment of salaries to employees of Delhi Government Colleges Teachers across Delhi University colleges today observed a day-long Hunger Strike (9 AM to 5 PM) from home under the banner of the Delhi University Teachers' Association. The DUTA has given this call in the light of the fact that salaries have not been paid for several months now to the employees of 12 Delhi University colleges that are funded by the Delhi government. The Delhi Government has so far not cared to respond to the repeated pleas by the DUTA for immediate release of salaries in these unprecedented times.
