Dear Colleagues,

More than thirty thousand students, teachers, non-teaching employees and parents from different states marched under the banner of the Joint Forum for Movement on Education (JFME) on 19 February 2019 from Mandi House to Parliament Street. Students, teachers and karamcharis from across the country marched to demand a reversal of the Privatisation Policies that have led to social exclusion and denial of rights. The JFME Save Campus, Education, Save Nation Rally was organised through the joint initiative of the AIFUCTO, DUTA and FEDCUTA along with National-level Secondary School Teachers’ Association and all-India students’ organisations.

The vibrant Rally culminated in a massive Public Meeting that was addressed by eminent educationists, members of Parliament and leaders of all major national political parties.

We salute efforts of the Staff Associations in mobilizing students and teachers for the People’s March. We appeal to teachers and Staff Associations to take forward the ongoing DUTA movement forward by greater participation.

Please mobilise and participate in following action programmes:

25 February, University in Crisis: Short public meeting followed by formation of Human Chain by students and teachers at 2 pm on Campus to highlight the crisis in the University. Assembly at Arts Faculty, North Campus at 2 pm.

26 February, Adhikar Candle Light Vigil: To highlight demands of an Ordinance/Bill on 200 point College/University-wise Roster and a Regulation of one-time absorption of adhoc and temporary teachers, the DUTA will hold Candle Light Vigil at Mandi House on 26 February at 4 pm. Classes will remain suspended from 1:30 pm.

27 Feb – 1 March: DUTA Strike

The posters of these action programmes are enclosed. Please share and circulate them widely.

Further, we appeal to Staff Associations to call their meetings and discuss future course of action including continuation of the Strike. Resolutions should be emailed to duta.du@gmail.com. We appeal to Office Bearers of Staff associations to attend the Extended DUTA Executive and participate in the deliberations.

The Extended DUTA will draw draft proposal for future course of action and decide about the continuation of Strike on the basis of resolutions of Staff Association in its meeting scheduled for Thursday, 28 February, 2:30 pm.

On 1 March, 11 am, the DUTA GBM will decide future course of action including continuation of Strike. All must come.

We shall Fight, we shall Win!

Rajib Ray
President, DUTA
