Sub: Regarding Centralized Attendance App

Dear Colleagues,

In the DUTA Executive meeting held on Friday, 22nd December, the following resolution was adopted unanimously on the issue of App-based Attendance system.

DUTA Executive Resolution 22nd December 2017:

“The University has developed a Centralised Attendance App to mark students' attendance and is pushing colleges to implement it. The DUTA Executive unanimously rejects the implementation of Attendance App.

The University’s attempt to implement Attendance App without discussing its need, cost and feasibility in the Academic Council and the Executive Council undermines the role of Statutory Bodies. The Attendance App will lead to mechanisation and over-regulation. The cost of implementing such an attendance app will be transferred to students. The DUTA also fears that this hourly based monitoring will be used for surveillance and become a handle to victimize teachers.

Instead of focusing on real issues which confront the University today, the administration is spending efforts and resources on a change which has no real bearing on the quality of education.”
                 
The DUTA Executive also decided to reach out to students' unions and organisations on the matter.

Further, the DUTA requests Staff Associations to convene their meetings by 15 January and inform the DUTA Office about the same (duta.du@gmail.com). We make a special request to the Staff Associations of the Colleges where App- based attendance system is already in place, to hold their meetings and invite the DUTA team.
