DUTA Letter to the Principal reg. services of ad-hoc teachers: 27.05.2020

Regarding services of ad-hoc teachers The Principal --------------------------------- College University of Delhi 27.5.2020 Subject: Regarding services of ad-hoc teachers Dear Madam/Sir, As you know, following the academic calendar for the academic year 2019-2020, colleges had renewed/extended services of teachers working on ad-hoc basis till 25.5.20202. We wish to draw your attention to the fact that the only significance of 25.5.2020 was that it was the last working day as per the calendar. The lockdown and subsequent University circulars have already redefined the earlier academic calendar 2019-2020 in effect. It has come to our notice that some colleges have terminated services of teachers w.e.f. 25.5.2020, treating it as the last working day. This has increased anxiety amongst ad-hoc teachers as this has bearing on their vacation salaries also. Please note that the University is yet to announce the revised academic calendar for the current term and for t

Result of Survey cum Referendum conducted by DUTA on OBE 27.5.2020 Prof. Yogesh Tyagi Vice Chancellor University of Delhi Delhi 110007 Subject: Result of Survey cum Referendum conducted by DUTA on OBE In continuation with our earlier letter dt. 14.5.2020 regarding the conduct of examinations and the University administration’s unilateral decision to hold Open Book Exams for terminal year/ semester students, we wish to bring to your notice that a Survey cum Referendum conducted by the DUTA among students has cast a resounding verdict against the OBE. In less than 48 hours, more than 51,000 responded to the survey and an overwhelming majority of students (85%) voted against the Open Book Examination. The fact that the Survey cum Referendum garnered so many responses in such a short time reveals a deep seated anxiety among third year undergraduate students about the feasibility of the OBE. Further, the Survey has only confirmed what teachers have been saying fro

DUTA Press Release, 22 May 2020

DUTA extends solidarity to the Nationwide Strike called by trade unions against retrograde changes in Labour Laws The DUTA stands in complete solidarity with the nationwide strike called by trade union bodies on 22.05.2020 in protest against the subversion of the existing labour laws . In the guise of "labour law reforms" the central government is setting in place draconian rules that will pave the way for  exploitation of workers. Likewise, the DUTA has been strongly opposing the aggressive commercialisation and privatisation of the education sector in the garb of the NEP. At a time when the country is reeling under acute health crisis, this subversion of labour laws will only add to the miseries of the working class sections. Many recommendations like increasing of working hours and reduction of social security benefits are harbingers of doom and destruction for the working class sections. This is the time for providing more economic and social security to

DUTA Press Release: 20 May 2020

DUTA-DUSU join hands to oppose Online Open Book Examinations in DU The DUTA and the DUSU joined hands along with several students' organizations for teachers and students to storm Twitter and Facebook in opposition to the unwise and avoidable move by the Delhi University administration to conduct an Online Open Book Examination for the terminal year students. The DU administration that cannot consult statutory bodies online to take a collective decision, that has not bothered to reach its students online to ascertain how they are situated and that cannot give academic responses to feedbacks received from the DUTA, University departments, various organisations and individuals is thrusting upon students a mechanism that is unjust and bereft of sanctity. The manner in which decisions are being taken in violation of statutory processes and disregarding the need for consultation and dialogue can only result in callous and horrendous moves. The students have been away
