DUTA Press Release, 30 November 2016

Gross Misrepresentation of Facts in the Press Release issued by DU Registrar The DUTA strongly condemns the Press Release issued by the University in regard to the decisions of the Academic Council meeting held yesterday, in particular to the following: 1. that the 3rd and 4th amendments of the UGC regulation were adopted in principle, 2. the failure to mention that the committee to revisit the recommendations would be expanded so           that it would have 50% elected members of the AC/EC; and 3. that teachers of Physical Education and Librarians have been mentioned as Group A positions in the Library and Physical Education cadre in the non-teaching category. These clearly contradict the discussions and decisions announced in the AC meeting in which elected AC members had argued that the recommendations proposed in the agenda were unacceptable in their present form and the Vice-Chancellor had agreed that the recommendations be revisited in the light of

DUTA Press Release: 22 November 2016

Mass Hunger Strike to Demand Immediate Regularisation of Ad hoc and Temporary Teachers with Correct Roster: The DUTA sat on a mass hunger strike from 9 AM to 9 PM on 22.11.2016 in front of gate no. 1 outside the V-C office in support of thousands of ad hoc and temporary teachers languishing without permanent jobs for many years. Huge number of teachers participated in the hunger strike and narrated real life horror stories of how lack of permanent jobs resulted into their exploitation, abuse and abominable service conditions that had a direct impact on their lives. Speaker after speaker elaborated how not being made permanent for so many years has destabilized their lives. Ad hoc and temporary teachers routinely face a lot of discrimination in their professional lives. In many colleges, unlike the permanent staff, they have to teach more classes moving well beyond the 16-periods-per-week UGC norms. They are also allotted more examination duties than their perman

DUTA PRESS RELEASE, 09.11.2016

DUTA PRESS RELEASE, 09.11.2016   The DUTA strongly condemns the filing of FIR against Nandini Sundar, Professor of Sociology in Delhi University on charges of murder of an adivasi in the Sukma district of  Chhattisgarh. Others named in the FIR include Professor Archana Prasad of Jawaharlal Nehru University. Nandini Sundar is a leading anthropologist and noted human rights activist of India. She has written extensively on Maoist insurgency in Chhattisgarh. Her book "The Burning Forest: India's War in Bastar" narrates the failure of the institutions of democracy and gross Human Rights violation including sexual violence in Chhattisgarh, especially in the Bastar region. It is important to note that it was on her petition that the Supreme Court in 2011 had instructed the disbanding of the notorious Salwa Judum militia that mirrored complete lawlessness of local police. More recently, her intervention in the Supreme Court, along with some others, led the CBI to a

The following resolution was adopted by the FEDCUTA in the meeting of its Secretariat held on 1.11.2016  FEDCUTA RESOLUTION      The FEDCUTA strongly condemns the recent high-handed moves of the AMU administration which have led to unprecedented attacks on the freedom of expression and association in the university. On the 29th October 2016 the EC of the AMU has compulsorily retired Prof. Mustafa Zaidi, the Secretary of the AMUTA for staging a Dharna in the university on the democratic mandate of the AMUTA to highlight the corruption and ineptness of the AMU administration.Prof. Zaidi was earlier suspended and an enquiry was instituted against him on the flimsy and baseless grounds of his not carrying out his teaching responsibilities. The FEDCUTA demands that this authoritarian decision be immediately revoked. In an equally dastardly and undemocratic move cases were filed in a local court by the AMU administration against the visiting FEDCUTA and DUTA President Pr
