DUTA PRESS RELEASE, 17.2.2016

MASSIVE DHARNA BY DU TEACHERS AND NON-TEACHING EMPLOYEES DEMANDING RELEASE OF PENSION The DUTA along with the DUCKU(Delhi University and Colleges Karamchari Union), the DUCLSA(Delhi University and Colleges Lab Staff Association) and Delhi University and Colleges SC/ST Association staged a massive dharna at the Arts Faculty Gate today to demand the release of pensions of thousands of retired employees that have been held up by the DU administration since June 2014 in an illegal and arbitrary manner. Thousands of teachers and non-teaching employees from various colleges and departments participated in the dharna and related their harrowing experiences of grave financial hardship as a result of the callous and vindictive actions of the DU authorities in denying them their due pension. The DUTA, DUCKU, DUCLSA and DUCST/STA have demanded: (i) the immediate release of pension for those whom the University itself had placed in the pension scheme(GPF) more than 18 years ago

DUTA PRESS RELEASE, 16.2.2016

DUTA Executive Resolutions on JNU crisis 16.2.2016 The following two resolutions were adopted by the DUTA Executive in an emergency meeting held on 16 February 2016: Resolution No. 1 (Proposed by the Office Bearers) The DUTA reaffirms its commitment to the core Constitutional values of the Republic of India. The DUTA strongly condemns the police crackdown unleashed on the students and teachers of Jawaharlal Nehru University, and on some teachers of Delhi University, by the Government in the name of fighting anti-national activities. Following closely on the heels of the tragic suicide of RohithVemula, the recent crackdown has highlighted the insensitivity of the Government towards growing student discontent and protests across the country. It is unfortunate that the Government has not learnt a lesson from the devastating consequences of the mishandling of the student protests in the University of Hyderabad. The DUTA is unequivocal in condemnation of any activity a

DUTA Press Release, 10.2.2016

TEACHERS COME OUT IN LARGE NUMBERS TO DEMAND UGC PAY REVIEW COMMITTEE Thousands of teachers participated in the DUTA Dharna at Jantar Mantar today from 11 am to 3 pm. They were demanding that the UGC Pay Review Committee be set up forthwith. The Dharna was held after a month long campaign by the DUTA in which meetings of Staff Associations were held in many colleges. They came in groups, many of them in buses from their colleges. The DUTA, FEDCUTA and AIFUCTO have already held several action programmes and submitted innumerable representation on the issue, but there has been no signal from the Government or the UGC about its constitution. Speakers pointed out that in the past the UGC Pay Review Committee had always been set up before the submission of the Central Pay Commission report. This time however, several months have passed after the submission of the 7th Pay Commission report and the Government has started the process of revising pay for government employees. Te

DUTA Memorandum to MHRD, 10.2.2016

Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Hon'ble Minister for HRD Government of India 10 February 2016 Sub: Urgent appeal to set up the UGC Pay Review Committee Dear Madam, The DUTA as well as the FEDCUTA and AIFUCTO have on several occasions drawn your attention to the inordinate delay in setting up the UGC Pay Review Committee for Teachers. In the past, this Committee was constituted well before the submission of the Central Pay Commission report, and with good reason, since a separate and specific focus on teachers' service conditions is required in order to ensure that the profession is able to draw the talent necessary for it to be able to carry out its responsibilities towards the students of this country. The Seventh Pay Commission has already submitted its report in November 2015 and the Government has set in motion the process of implementation. Yet there is no news of the UGC Pay Review Committee being set up. Teachers are therefore greatly and justifiably anxious

DUTA Press Release, 3.2.2016

Students protest relative grading system; DUTA extends solidarity The CBCS results for the Ist semester have generated discontent amongst students and teachers. A large number of students, representing their colleges and courses, collected at Arts Faculty today, 3 February, at 12 noon to protest and represent the matter to the University. They were joined in by the DUTA President and other teacher representatives. Students and teachers are completely clueless about the new system. Students cannot see correspondence between their performance and grades and are feeling helpless. They do not know whether revaluation (for a steep fees of Rs 1000 per paper) will help them or not! System never discussed in the AC and the EC nor notified: It is only through a press statement made by Prof Rup Lal, Dean Examinations, that it became clear that the University has adopted relative grading system as suggested recently by the UGC. DUTA takes serious note of the fact that the relat
