DUTA PRESS RELEASE; 31.3.2015

Jansunwai Verdict: Illegalities Committed by VC Dinesh Singh have Destroyed Delhi University The second day of DUTA's well-attended Jansuwai focused on the illegalities and financial irregularities committed by the DU VC. Witnesses included teachers and students who have been forced to file RTIs or take recourse to litigation against the University in order to secure justice, in the last four years. Prof. Hany Babu of the Dept. of English and Academic Council member Dr. Hans Raj Suman outlined the details behind DU's repeated attempts to deny due reservations to students in admissions and teachers in permanent appointments. Prof. Babu cited court documents, to illustrate the fact that VC Dinesh Singh had appealed against the High Court's single-bench Order on OBC reservations in students' admissions as soon as he had assumed office in 2010. His position was subversive of the National Reservation Policy and eventually the Supreme Court had had to intervene

DUTA PRESS RELEASE: 30.3.2015

First Day of Jansunvai Highlights Academic Fraud in the Tenure of VC Dinesh Singh The DUTA three-day Jansunvai (Public Hearing) against the DU Vice-Chancellor's misdeeds kicked off today with students, teachers and parents sharing their experiences of the academic situation which has sharply deteriorated in Dinesh Singh's tenure. Students Neeraj Kumar and Shahnawaz spoke on the experiences of students in regular colleges and School of Open Learning (SOL), underlining the neglect and academic fraud perpetuated in the name of restructuring and reforms. Academic Council member and teacher of Computer Science, Dr. V.S. Dixit, spoke on the callous manner in which DU disregarded all AICTE norms related to technical support, course content, class-sizes and student-teacher ratio while it merely renamed existing B.Sc. courses into B.Tech, thus precipitating the crisis of AICTE approvals. Student Prashant also underlined that the fraudulent B.Tech. courses not only fall fa

DUTA PRESS RELEASE: 28.3.2015

DUTA Condemns Barbaric Police Violence against DUSU Protesters; holds Insensitive DU Administration Responsible The growing measure of intolerance against the democratic rights of students and teachers in Delhi University is clearly indicated in today’s barbaric police violence unleashed against DUSU protesters. The DUTA has learnt that hundreds of students who had marched to the VC’s office protesting against his continuation in office and the DU administration’s refusal to address pending students’ issues such as Special Chance, more colleges, more hostel accommodation and better transport facilities were subjected to water cannons and lathi-charge. Nine students have suffered serious injuries, including the DUSU Vice-President, Pravesh Malik, and had to be admitted to the local government hospital. The DU administration remains unperturbed. The DUTA condemns this high-handed attitude of the DU administration and the Delhi Police who have clearly acted at its behest. W
