DUTA cries foul over reservation policy - The Hindu

DUTA cries foul over reservation policy - The Hindu The Delhi University Teachers’ Association, which has long cried foul over the way the University is implementing the reservation policy with regard to the appointment of teachers, wrote about the issue to the Union Minister for Human Resource Development Pallam Raju on Thursday. “The University of Delhi’s decision on modalities to implement the 200 Point Post-Based Roster for teaching positions is at variance with the clear directives issued by the UGC. In a meeting with college principals, heads of departments and the SC/ST liaison officers on September 20, the Vice-Chancellor and his team of officials instructed colleges to apply the 200 point roster to an alphabetically ordered, department-wise list of sanctioned teaching positions,” said the letter. The DUTA has issue with the fact that the roster is applied department-wise when the rules clearly state that it should be applied to the college as a “whole unit.”

Letter to MHRD on Roster Implementation by DU

Hon. Sh. M.M. Pallam Raju Union Minister, HRD Shastri Bhavan, New Delhi September 26, 2013 Sub: Concern over Manner of Roster Implementation regarding Teaching Appointments in University of Delhi Dear Sir, The University of Delhi’s decision on modalities to implement the 200 Point Post- Based Roster for teaching positions is at variance with the clear directives issued by the UGC, MHRD and DoPT, Govt. of India. In a meeting with College Principals, Heads of Departments and the SC/ST Liason Officers on 20 September 2013, the Vice Chancellor and his team of officials instructed colleges to apply the 200 point roster to an alphabetically ordered, department-wise list of sanctioned teaching positions. The 200-Point Roster, on the other hand, is applicable to the college as a unit, in which all existing teachers as on 2.7.1997, and those appointed subsequently on permanent basis, have to be listed in order of seniority. It is on this basis that the shortfall and backlog

Specious case against Saibaba, intervene: DU teachers' body to Shinde - Indian Express

Specious case against Saibaba, intervene: DU teachers' body to Shinde - Indian Express Three days after teachers and activists condemned the police raid at the residence of Delhi University professor G N Saibaba, president of the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) on Tuesday wrote to Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, seeking his intervention. Condemning the police attempt to "fabricate a specious case against Dr Saibaba", DUTA president Nandita Narain wrote, "We request you to use your good offices to ensure that no attempt should be made to arrest him and to uphold and safeguard his fundamental rights." On September 12, a police team had raided Ram Lal Anand College teacher Saibaba's residence in North Campus, detaining him and his family for nearly four hours. His laptop, hard disks, pen drives, mobile phones, some books and booklets were confiscated. The search warrant stated that the house was used as "a place for th

Press Release, 12.9.2013

The unprovoked violence unleashed by the Delhi Police on students and teachers of the Delhi University on the eve of the DUSU Elections has drawn attention to the condemnable disregard of human and democratic rights in the university campus. While students and teachers had gathered outside the VC's official residence today to protest against the administration's indifference and the police violence inflicted on students participating in an indefinite hunger strike last night, the Delhi Police ACP Anil Kumar ordered an assault on students and teachers alike. Women teachers were physically assaulted and molested by male constables. A student was picked up for raising slogans against the Vice Chancellor and dragged inside a police jeep which drove him away to an undisclosed location for detention. The Delhi Police had been acting as the Vice Chancellor's personal bouncers throughout the day. The Vice Chancellor, on the other hand, did not even extend the basic courtes

Dainik Jagran --

Press Release, 4.9.2013

Statement to Teachers on Teachers' Day This Teachers’ Day, let us reaffirm our faith in the vision of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan , who believed that a University should be a space for dialogue, for a free and fearless exchange of ideas, and that public-funded Universities empower and create conditions for confidence and equity by giving all sections of our society access to quality education. Let each one of us take an oath to protect our academic freedom, to defend our democratic spaces, to safeguard the dignity of teachers and ensure a future for our students. Those who pay lip sympathy to teachers on Teachers’ Day, but spare no effort to humiliate them and vandalise the academic life of the University should be warned that teachers will not tolerate any further destruction of all that is humane, beautiful and true in our Universities. Their dishonesty stands exposed.  Teachers in our University, like teachers elsewhere, have begun to reflect on the basic
