DUTA Rejects Points System for Appointments and Promotions; Warns UGC and MHRD of Impending Agitations  The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) is dismayed at the UGC’s decision to link the controversial API and Points-based Assessment System (PBAS) with teachers’ appointments and promotions in colleges and University departments. Despite several representations and meetings with the UGC Revisit Committee, in which the DUTA has clearly argued that besides being discriminatory, the Points System will adversely impact the quality of teaching, attraction towards the teaching profession and the relationship between teachers and students in institutions of higher learning, none of its concerns seem to have been addressed. The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) shares in the nation’s grief over the terrible and extensive loss of life, home and livelihood owing to the recent floods and landslides in Uttarakhand. The DUTA empathises with the irreconcilable sense of loss and trauma suffered by the loved ones and family members of those who have been reported dead, as well as the anxiety for many more reported missing, even as the extent of destruction wreaked by this calamity remains to be assessed fully. The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) categorically objects to this perverse move to wean these colleges away from the University in the name of academic and administrative autonomy. Such autonomy, by way of giving disproportionate powers to the governing bodies and managing committees of these colleges, will work against the interests of independent academic and intellectual pursuits that the prestige of these colleges has been founded on. No attempt has been made, on the part of the Government, to even enquire whether the teachers and students of these colleges would want such autonomy. Instead of giving academic i
