The Hindu : Cities / Delhi : DUTA strike draws massive support

Press Release, 28.8.2012

Despite trying every trick at its disposal, the Delhi University Administration failed to prevent the 24 hours Hunger Strike of the DUTA Executive and elected members of the AC and EC, as well as the One-day Token Strike of teachers, from being a resounding success. Staff Associations of various colleges have been leading their teachers under colourful banners to the pavilion-site of the Hunger Strike outside the VC’s office since 9 am when the Strike officially began. Over a thousand teachers have already registered their solidarity and presence at the site and more are expected to arrive through the evening. The Hunger Strike will continue round the clock till 9 am on the next morrow. All elected teachers’ representatives have spoken out in a united voice of anger against the VC’s cynical indifference and insane persistence in attacking the DUTA and all other democratic organs of the University. The building unrest in the University is made evident by the fact that the Delhi Un

Press Release, 27.8.2012

Sub: DUTA one-day Token Strike and 24 Hours Hunger Strike of DUTA Executive and Elected AC and EC Members on August 28, 2012 As a University that has made a vital contribution to our nation’s Higher Education, the Delhi University has hitherto boasted of plural, inclusive, tolerant and symbiotic environment of teaching-learning fostered collectively by teachers, students and the karamcharis. The collegial and reciprocal unity of these three significant stakeholders of the University has been sustained through democratic systems of representation and decision-making. Through the democratic means enshrined in the Delhi University Act of 1922 and its Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations, as well as through the vigorous participation of teachers, students and karamcharis in the activities of their respective associations and unions, the University has been able to attain and hold on to a composite national character. Press Release, 24.8.2012

Prof. Dinesh Singh Vice-Chancellor University of Delhi Delhi – 110007 Sub: DUTA’s decision to observe a 24 hour hunger-strike, outside the VC office, by the entire DUTA Executive Committee including all elected AC/EC Members from 09:00 A.M. on Tuesday, 28/08/2012 to 09:00 A.M. on Wednesday, 29/08/2012 as well as a one day general token strike by DUTA on 28/08/2012 Dear Prof. Singh, We bring to your kind notice that the DUTA Executive Committee at its meeting yesterday i.e. 23/08/2012 decided to observe a 24 hour hunger-strike along with one day token strike as stated above. DUTA has been constrained to take these decisions with deep anguish and dismay, and under most compelling circumstances. DUTA calls for token strike on Tuesday, threatens massive action programme if ignored

Press Release, 22.8.2012

The DUTA expresses absolute solidarity with the ongoing struggle of Delhi University and Colleges Karamchari union (DUCKU) and exhorts the University authorities to invite negotiations, as per democratic norms in civilized societies, for an amicable solution to the legitimate demands of the Karamcharis. The DUTA strongly protests against the high-handed and vicious attitude of the authorities in attacking the peacefully agitating Karamcharis by getting their tent at the Dharna site uprooted. This amounts to sheer vandalism and an unprecedented attack democratically elected collective bodies. The DUTA unequivocally condemns the “No-Work-No-Pay” order slapped on the agitating Karamcharis. Rather than trying to see reason, the University is instead bent upon indulging in dictatorial and arm-twisting tactics to demoralize the Karamcharis. The DUTA refuses to take all this lying down and warns the authorities to desist from indulging in disruptive and negative tactics. The DUTA extend
